Suppressions

A suppression is an address Mailhuset won't send to, to protect your sending reputation and respect recipients. Sending to addresses that bounce or complain is the fastest way to hurt deliverability, so this is enforced automatically.

What gets suppressed

  • Hard bounces: the address doesn't exist or permanently rejected mail.
  • Complaints: the recipient marked your mail as spam.
  • Unsubscribes: the recipient opted out (especially from broadcasts).

Once suppressed, future sends to that address are skipped and shown as suppressed in Activity.

Manage the list

Open Suppressions to review entries and, when appropriate, remove one, for example if a previously-bad mailbox is fixed and the person explicitly asks to receive mail again. Remove sparingly: re-adding a known-bad address risks another bounce or complaint.

Keep your own copy in sync

Mirror suppressions into your own database via webhooks (bounced, complained) so your app never tries to re-add or re-target a suppressed recipient.

Why it matters

Mailbox providers watch bounce and complaint rates closely. Automatic suppression keeps those rates low, which is central to deliverability.
